The Arts & Artisans Trails of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket is a local publication that invites the visitor to experience Cape Cod and the Islands from a different perspective. Chock-full of self-guided driving and walking itineraries to artists, artisans’ studios, and galleries on and off the beaten path, the guide offers a glimpse of what makes the region so uniquely appealing. The second edition will be ready for distribution this summer. Following the basic trail map will introduce you to inimitable characters and some truly remarkable pieces of art – in barns, perched on cranberry boxes, and in studios overlooking vistas that inspire the artists every day.

Seven regional itineraries lead the visitor to nearly 200 stops. The first five trails are on Cape Cod, with one each on Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard completing the collection.

Shining Sea Trail – Upper Cape
Old King’s Highway Trail – Mid Cape
String of Ports Trail -Lower Cape
Sea Captains’ Trail – Lower Cape
Great Dunes Trail – Outer Cape
Moshup’s Trail – Martha’s Vineyard

Along the trails, you will find an Italian candle maker trained in the art of ceramics and a Swedish-born woman who transfers watercolors into textile designs, an Orleans woman who transforms driftwood into sculpture and a Nantucket scrimshander who etches delicate lines into ivory. A Martha’s Vineyard ceramic artist’s work evokes a whimsical Eden with exotic hand-carved animals, and a woman of Wampanoag ancestry crafts jewelry out of wampum. You will also find a pewter crafter, a quilt-maker, a decoy-carver, basket-makers, glass-blowers, and potters.

Our Fall for Cape Cod package includes a complimentary Arts and Artisans Trail Guide, along with other enticing treats to introduce you to the characters that help paint the colors of Cape Cod in autumn.
